Bobbie C. Yoakum
Bobbie taught mathematics for 25 years. She started beading in 1989, but did not "get into it" until her retirement in 1999. It was at this time that she started working for Margo Field at Margo's bead store. Bobbie loved teaching beading and working in the store for over 11 years until Margo sold the store in November 2010. Bobbie is still teaching and designing projects. Some of her projects have appeared in Bead and Button and in Beadwork magazines. She felt honored when Beadwork chose her "Poinsettia Napkin Rings" for publication in Beader's Stash.

I was born in Chattanooga, TN. and grew up in Marietta, GA. where I loved playing in the woods around my house. Even now leaves and organic shapes are a recurring theme in my work. I got my Bachelor of Visual Arts with a major in painting from Georgia State University, and after graduation worked independently in a variety of media (primarily oils and watercolors). I exhibited my paintings extensively through the 80s and 90s. I began to get interested in jewelry design about 10 years ago(they are like little sculpture)and since then have written articles for Bead & Button Magazine, Step by Step Beads, and Bead World. Now, I live in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, with my husband Harold. I have two sons, Josh, who guides and teaches in Alaska, and Ben, who is a sophomore in college in Arizona. I was first exposed to beading when I was 19 and living in an Eskimo village in Alaska. An elder showed me the basics of stitching beads onto sealskin moccasins, and I was hooked! I have been beading jewelry, tapestries, suncatchers, and anything else that comes to mind ever since. I am currently addicted to designing tapestries using peyote stitch. Although beading is one of my biggest passions, I also adore my husband, our 2 crazy kitties, kayaking, snowboarding, and globe trotting to new and exciting locales.
