Dottie Hoeschen AKA Stonebrash Creative
I was born in Chattanooga, TN. and grew up in Marietta, GA. where I loved playing in the woods around my house. Even now leaves and organic shapes are a recurring theme in my work. I got my Bachelor of Visual Arts with a major in painting from Georgia State University, and after graduation worked independently in a variety of media (primarily oils and watercolors). I exhibited my paintings extensively through the 80s and 90s. I began to get interested in jewelry design about 10 years ago(they are like little sculpture)and since then have written articles for Bead & Button Magazine, Step by Step Beads, and Bead World. Now, I live in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, with my husband Harold. I have two sons, Josh, who guides and teaches in Alaska, and Ben, who is a sophomore in college in Arizona. I was first exposed to beading when I was 19 and living in an Eskimo village in Alaska. An elder showed me the basics of stitching beads onto sealskin moccasins, and I was hooked! I have been beading jewelry, tapestries, suncatchers, and anything else that comes to mind ever since. I am currently addicted to designing tapestries using peyote stitch. Although beading is one of my biggest passions, I also adore my husband, our 2 crazy kitties, kayaking, snowboarding, and globe trotting to new and exciting locales. I fell in love with beading over 17 years ago and have been learning new techniques ever since. Peyote stitch is my favorite technique and I love to use Delica Beads in my work because of their uniformity. I have been beading for over 15 years and teaching beading for about 12 years. I especially love Japanese seed beads in size 11 and size 15. Not a delica fan but maybe someday.... I especially love teaching other people about beading. I teach the following stitches/projects: peyote, brick, herringbone, helix, netting, St Petersburg chain, spiral rope, Dutch spiral, beaded pens, beaded Christmas ornaments, earrings, pouches, necklaces, bracelets - just about anything beaded, I have tried it. I have had 7 articles published by Jewelry Crafts Magazine and one by Bead & Button Magazine. Currently, I design patterns and make kits for beading projects. I teach when I get the chance and I enjoy the company of other beaders whenever possible. Picture at the left is with my newborn great nephew Isaac in Sept 05
