I have been doing some type of sewing or craft almost my entire life. I started stringing beads about 20 years ago, and about 1999 started learning other types of beading techniques, self-taught from magazines and books besides taking a few workshops, when I could. I especially enjoy off-loom weaving, though almost any type of beadwork intrigues me. In the last year I started teaching some beading workshops and developing my own patterns, and I'm pleased to have the opportunity to share with others a craft that I enjoy so much.

I live in the woods of central Maine with my husband, my teen-aged daughter, 4 cats and a dog. I "retired" last year from my profession of case management, and can now devote more time to playing with my beads!

The necklace I'm wearing in the photo is from one of Varvara's patterns.

Susan Mandel
Hello!

I have been doing beadwork for a few years now and find it to be one of the most joyful experiences.

I teach bead weaving classes (both loom and off loom techniques) at our local College and Arts Council. In teaching and sharing with my students, I find they inspire me to look at designs and beadwork in new and different ways, for which I am forever grateful. I also find inspiration in the many creative and talented beaders and designers I meet both on and off the internet. I hope that I am able to share with you some of this inspiration through my work.

I design my patterns as simply as possible so that you may have an enjoyable weaving experience. I think this is especially important for the beginning beader.

I hope you enjoy my designs and send you good wishes for all good things!

Kim Dorman
Hi!
I'm Kim Dorman and I live in rural Illinois with my husband, two sons, and two cats.

I come from a background in sewing/quiliting/embroidery and had my beginnings with needle and thread at age 5. Fortunately, I had plenty of wonderful mentors who encouraged me to find my own aesthetic voice.

My love affair with beads began quite accidentally in 1987 and I have been hooked ever since. When I found other beaders online, many of them warm and wonderful people, it strengthened my love of beads into a permanent passion.

Every one of my designs begins with beads and thread, pencil and paper. I bead each of my designs individually to ensure that the pattern is possible to create and helps put me in your place during the creative process. In this way, I feel I can bring an enjoyable pattern to you.

Kim :)

I started designing after translating Varvara's patterns in English. By now I know almost as much as she does. I am probably the only designer at bead-patterns.com, who doesn't bead at all. I tried it couple of times – it's very hard! I am in awe for everybody, who can do it.

Although I've been fascinated by beads ever since childhood, I didn't develop a true interest in beading until 1988. In 1988, here on the shores of beautiful Lake Superior, there was no Internet, no plethora of bead shops with books and beads, no classes to take. So, I went my own way, being influenced by the style of the classic beadwork of the late 1800's, early 1900's. Because of the lack of instruction books, I developed tools: "I wonder…?" and "How can I…?". I am fascinated by the merging of dissimilar methods of beadwork and the results are seen in my Purses. HangyDowns are a whimsical blending of several types of beadwork into small projects with ongoing results. My latest adventures are into circular weaving.

Mary Tafoya AKA Aunt Molly
My passion is making sculptures and wall pieces using beads as the primary medium, spending weeks or months to complete a single project. I've been fortunate to have been juried into many national beadwork, fiber arts, and fine art exhibitions since I started showing my work in 1998. Being a true Gemini, I cannot stick with one thing, so I experiment with bracelets, pouches, needlecases, dolls, shrines, earrings, polymer clay, stamping, shrink art, collage, and anything else that will add variety to my life! I also enjoy writing and have published numerous articles, artist profiles, and projects in magazines such as Beadwork (where I've been a regular contributor since 1999), Belle Armoire, and Bead & Button, as well as in several books about beadwork.

In 1997 I put up my first website, Aunt Molly's Bead Street, a fun online educational resource with free patterns and tutorials. In 2001, I launched a more formal portfolio site called Mary Tafoya: Beadwork, to house my resume and portfolio samples.

As a former graphic designer and graphic arts instructor, I enjoy merging the two fields of computer graphics and beadwork in my patterns offerings. Each pattern has been beaded by me personally, and each sheet includes a printer-tested color graph and bead color legend (usually for Miyuki Delicas). Each tutorial I offer includes illustrated step-by-step instructions which have been reviewed and tested by beadworkers of all levels.

THE FINE PRINT: I include contact information and a terms of usage statement with each item. Although my offerings here are intended for personal use, I do not restrict my customers from selling work they create from my patterns (as long as the items are not mass produced or made in a work-for-hire situation). I do, however, restrict distribution -- please do not copy or republish them, whether for sale or as a freebie, without prior written permission. Some of my items would make great classroom projects -- if you are interested in purchasing patterns and tutorials for your bead store or students, please contact me to make bulk order arrangements. I am also available to teach these and other projects in your shop or beading group!

Joanne's Jewellery
Joanne passed away on September 19, 2005 (Liver Cancer).

Message from Joanne:
"After my passing I woud like to continue selling my patterns on your site and all the sales will go to Cancer Research.
I so very much enjoyed my experience of designing and selling my patterns on your site as I have met so many wonderful people. This also is my way of retaining immortality.
Both my sons are graduating in two years - one from law school and the other business. We had planned on taking a family celebration cruise at that time but will be doing it very shortly instead. Unfortunately, this was not possible because of the rapid progression of the cancer.
I have learned to accept my future since I have led a very rich and full life. God now has other plans for me which I must accept - who knows maybe I will be beading in heaven."
Joanne's website will be maintained by a friend for the next year so as to continue to provide a venue for display of jewellery by her former students.
----------
Cheers to you Joanne, I look forward to meeting you in heaven, Love Rita

My name is Joanne Eby and I am a beadaholic. I retired from teaching and operating a fitness business for eighteen years. I needed something to replace this huge gap in my life and discovered beading to be the answer. My artistic talents was now venued to beading and my love for teaching fitness was redirected to teaching beading. I haven't looked back since and continue to meet many interesting people. I feel like I am on a roller coaster ride with this new hobby since it leads me to a number of exciting experiences, such as selling at arts and craft shows; distributing beading products; setting up my own website and now selling my patterns online.
